Navarre Absolute Judo Championship Crowns Regional Champions in Pamplona

Fifty judokas representing eleven regional clubs gathered at the Polideportivo Trinquete de Mendillorri on Sunday, Oct. 18, 2026, to compete in the absolute Navarrese judo championship, Diario de Navarra reported. Across three competition tatamis, athletes contested titles in multiple weight divisions across both men’s and women’s brackets, setting the stage for upcoming national qualifiers later in the month.

Mendillorri Bouts Shape Regional Selection

The morning tournament brought together competitors from eleven distinct organizations across the region, including Judo Club Ardoy, Club Deportivo Atarrabia, Natación Pamplona, Judo Klub Erice, Erreka, Irabia, Larraona Claret, Gimnasio León Pamplona, Club Navarro de Lucha, and Judo Club Ribera Navarra. Action unfolded across seven male weight categories—featuring 41 participants—and four female divisions comprising nine athletes.

While the regional results do not serve as an automatic, sole determinant, technical staff will use the performances to help form the Navarrese squad. Selected athletes will advance to represent the region at the upcoming Phase Sector Norte of the absolute Spanish Judo Championship, scheduled for Oct. 31, 2026, in Pamplona under guidelines from the Royal Spanish Judo and Associated Disciplines Federation.

Ainara Garnica, also representing Club Navarro de Lucha, secured the -52 kg title, while Gaxuxa Zelaieta of Erreka triumphed in the -57 kg bracket, and Carla Iribarren of Club Navarro de Lucha took home the -63 kg gold.
