The Zamora judo contingent secured four medals, capturing three silvers and one bronze, El Día de Zamora reported. Across both morning training sessions and afternoon tournament bouts, competitors from local clubs represented the province in multiple weight divisions while awaiting potential selection for the upcoming national sector phase.
Morning Federative Training Prepares Youth Categories
While senior athletes prepared for afternoon competition, younger judocas gathered for a regional federative training session covering the alevín and infantil age categories. According to El Día de Zamora, the morning workout brought together athletes from Club Gokyo and Club Judo Morales alongside top competitors from across Castilla y León.
Club Gokyo was represented on the mat by Ander Rodríguez, Paula Mateos, and Lucas Fernández. Meanwhile, Club Judo Morales sent Jerome Esteban, Raúl Diego, Celia Hernández, Emma Sam José, and Lidia Coco to participate in the developmental session.
Weigh-In and Roster Dynamics for Club Judo Morales
Simultaneously, the Caja Rural-Judo senior team—consisting entirely of Club Judo Morales competitors—completed weigh-in and accreditation procedures without incident ahead of the afternoon matches. Three members of the team were younger competitors, including two second-year cadetes and one first-year junior, alongside two female veterans over the age of 40.
Men’s Division Bouts and Controversial Decisions
In the men’s -73kg category, Rodrigo Gil opened his tournament with a second-round exit. He advanced to the repechage bracket but was ultimately unable to reach the medal matches. His teammate, Juan Meana, experienced a disputed elimination in the same weight division when officials spent several minutes reviewing an exchange before awarding the decisive score to his opponent.
Women’s Medals in the -52kg and -73kg Weight Classes
In the women’s -52kg category, Elena Castrillo and Sofía Domínguez advanced through the league phase and demanding preliminary bouts before meeting each other in the bracket. Sofía Domínguez secured the silver medal, while Elena Castrillo earned the bronze, giving Club Judo Morales two spots on the senior -52kg podium.
Competing in the -63kg category, veteran Beatriz Donis returned to a competitive tatami after an absence of more than two decades. After an initial period of adjustment, she advanced to the final before finishing with the silver medal. Diana Monge added a third silver medal for the team in the -78kg category following a consistent series of matches.
Selection Prospects for the Western Sector Championship
With three silver medals and one bronze secured, the Moralina delegation returned home awaiting potential selection by the Castilla y León regional coach. Selected athletes will advance to represent the region at the upcoming western sector phase of the Spanish Senior Championship. The Zamora Judo Delegation issued congratulations to the squad, pointing to the team’s balance of veterans and developing athletes as a key reference point for younger competitors.
