Uxue Gutiérrez Wins Silver for Judo Club Kalamua at Cantabria Cup

Uxue Gutiérrez secured a silver medal for Judo Club Kalamua in the under-52 kilogram promotion category at the Cantabria Cup, held at the Palacio de los Deportes in Santander, local reports show.

Palacio de los Deportes Podium Finish

The Eibar-based expedition traveled to Santander last weekend to compete across infant and cadet divisions. While the club collected several individual victories, overall results fell short of internal expectations, according to club assessments. Gutiérrez delivered the standout performance of the tournament by fighting through the under-52 kg promotion bracket in the infant division. Her path to the podium required an immediate recovery after she suffered a blow to the face during her opening match, which she lost.

Refusing to drop out of contention, Gutiérrez adjusted her approach and fought through the remaining bouts. She finished her league phase with two victories and two defeats, a record that secured her the silver medal.

Aner González Competes in Cadet Division

In the cadet category, Aner González advanced the furthest among the club’s male competitors in the under-55 kg division. González opened his tournament with a victory before dropping his second-round match. That early loss placed him into the repechage bracket, where he won his next encounter. However, he fell in his subsequent match, missing out on the medal rounds with a final tournament record of two wins and two losses.

Preparation for the Copa de Avilés

Despite missing broader medal targets, Judo Club Kalamua representatives emphasized the developmental value of facing high-level opponents early in the competitive calendar. The squad plans to spend upcoming training sessions addressing tactical errors identified in Santander and sharpening techniques ahead of their next test.

The team’s next confirmed appearance is scheduled for the Copa de Avilés on October 24 and 25.
