Ilaria Bianco claims bronze at youth karate World championships

Naples karateka Ilaria Bianco secured the first global medal of her career by capturing bronze in the junior 52 kg division at the Youth Karate World Championships in Bielsko-Biała, Poland, NapoliToday reported.

The Junior 52 kg Third-Place Bout Against Ghanei Fard

The decisive match for the podium spot pitted Bianco against Iran’s Ghanei Fard. Regulation time expired with neither competitor scoring, leaving the scoreboard deadlocked at 0-0. The officiating panel awarded the victory and the bronze medal to the young Italian athlete via a referee decision.

The tournament, held from October 14 through October 18, drew more than 2,000 competitors across 114 nations. Divisions spanned Cadet, Junior, and Under-21 categories.

Navigating the Repechage After an Early Defeat

Bianco’s path to the medal stand required a grueling run through the repechage bracket. She opened her tournament campaign with a loss against Egypt’s Malak Afifi, which dropped her out of the direct championship path.

Rebounding in the repechage rounds, Bianco defeated Mexico’s Escobedo. She then pushed past Montenegro’s Cizmovic, securing her spot in the match for third place.

Universal Center Representation on the Global Stage

Representing the Naples-based sports club Universal Center, Bianco’s performance marks a breakthrough achievement for the regional competitor in international competition. The global event in southern Poland serves as a primary showcase for emerging talent governed by the World Karate Federation.

Tournament Scope and Competitor Field

The five-day international gathering in Bielsko-Biała highlighted the depth of youth karate talent worldwide. With participation scaling past 2,000 athletes, the championships tested competitors across three distinct age groups.
