Moritz Wagner Discusses First Matchup Against Orlando Magic

German national basketball player Moritz Wagner signed a two-year, $19 million contract with the Brooklyn Nets during the offseason, ending a more than five-season tenure with the Orlando Magic where he frequently played alongside his younger brother, Franz Wagner.

Upcoming Matchup Against Former Teammates

Moritz Wagner is scheduled to face his former Orlando Magic teammates and his brother Franz for the first time since joining the Brooklyn Nets, with the two teams meeting on November 21. When asked in an interview with the sports format diemitdendunks about his anticipation for the matchup, the 29-year-old stated that he was not looking forward to it “honestly,” explaining that playing against close friends or relatives feels “somehow a bit strange.”

“Of course I’m happy to see the guys again, but I could do that in a different environment,” Wagner said during the interview. He added that while the excitement level for the competition itself is low, having family and friends present will make for a memorable day.

Role Expansion and Early Season Statistics

The transition to Brooklyn has yielded immediate dividends in playing time for the Berlin native. Across the four games of the NBA season, Wagner has averaged nearly 17 minutes per contest, an increase from the 12 minutes he averaged during his final year in Orlando.

Through those early appearances, Wagner has contributed averages of 10.3 points, 2.8 rebounds, and 1.5 assists per game. His perimeter shooting has also seen a sharp rise, converting 60 percent of his three-point attempts—a figure that stands well above his career average of 32.7 percent.
