Malnate Vikings Host Blind Baseball Event for Inclusive Sport

Inclusive sports return to Malnate on October 31 with an edition of “Giochiamo Insieme… Oltre i limiti,” an event hosted by the ASD Malnate Vikings Baseball Softball at Gurian Field designed to introduce the public to baseball for the blind and visually impaired. Gates open in the early afternoon for an open-air schedule of demonstrations, community activities, and integrated play on the diamond.

Blind Baseball Demonstrations Open the Afternoon

The afternoon gets underway at 1:00 p.m. local time with a demonstration game and training session dedicated to blind baseball. Local sides Blind Vikings Malnate and Hurricane-Cisv-Varese take the field alongside two visiting Milanese squads, Thunder’s Five Milano ASD and Lampi Milano ASD. At 2:00 p.m., organizers officially open the grounds to the wider public, inviting visitors to step onto the playing surface and try out the integrated sports disciplines firsthand. Participants wishing to join the on-field activities are asked to wear appropriate athletic clothing and sports shoes.

Local Organizations Support Social Inclusion Event

Several local organizations and social groups collaborate on the event, lending institutional and operational support to the diamond. Key organizing partners include the sports association Ultra Dì, the Agorà 97 social cooperative, and the IncredABILI group based in Appiano Gentile. Coaches, athletes, and representatives from UISP Varese, the Milan Institute for the Blind, GSD Non Vedenti Milano ONLUS, and regional chapters of the Italian Union of the Blind and Visually Impaired (UICI) across Varese, Como, and Milan also participate. They are joined by the advocacy groups Insieme per lo sport ODV and the Abili si Diventa committee.

Food Stands Offer Refreshments at Gurian Field

Alongside the athletic schedule, the day features food and social activities centered around the ballpark. The Abili si Diventa committee operates a refreshment point serving grilled sausage sandwiches and hamburgers. Meanwhile, players and volunteers from the Blind Vikings Malnate manage a dedicated stand offering roasted chestnuts and warm mulled wine to spectators and participants. Admission to the entire event at Gurian Field is free of charge.
