Centre Kyudo Trégunc hosts archery workshop on November 1st

The Centre Kyudo association in Trégunc will host a day-long workshop on Japanese archery this Sunday, November 1, at the local dojo. The session, which runs from 10:00 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., is open to beginners, including adults and children starting at age 12.

Focus on cultural practice over sport

The workshop emphasizes the cultural dimensions of kyudo rather than its competitive aspects. Jean-Pierre Pilot, president of the association and an instructor with over 40 years of experience in the discipline, describes the practice as an “art of peace” rather than a traditional martial art. Participants will train with bows exceeding two meters in height, which are used without the assistance of sights or stabilizers.

“The objective is not to aim and hit the target, but to execute the correct movement,” Pilot explained.

Workshop logistics and participation

The event includes training on both the makiwara and target. The association provides all necessary equipment, including bows, arrows, and gloves. Attendees are advised to wear comfortable clothing and are required to bring either white socks or Tabi, the traditional split-toe footwear used for the practice.

For those interested in joining the session, the cost is set at 30 € for existing members and 50 € for non-members. An annual membership fee of 20 € is also required for those wishing to join the association.

Regular training sessions in Trégunc

Beyond the special November 1 workshop, the Centre Kyudo offers consistent instruction throughout the year. Regular classes are held at the Trégunc dojo every Sunday evening from 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m.
