The Biobío delegation has intensified its medal count in the final days of the 33rd Binational Araucanía Games, currently held in the Los Lagos and Los Ríos regions of Chile. Athletes from the region secured multiple podium finishes in judo and track and field, maintaining a competitive pace as the tournament nears its scheduled conclusion on October 30, 2026.
Athletics and Judo Podium Finishes
The track and field contingent added significant depth to Biobío’s tally. According to regional reports, Cristián Rubilar earned a bronze medal in the javelin throw with a distance of 53.38 meters, while Mario Chávez took third place in the 5,000-meter race. The men’s 4×100 relay team—comprising Osvaldo Delgado, Tomás Inostroza, Rodrigo Fuentes, and Agustín Troncoso—secured a silver medal.
Earlier in the competition, the delegation saw standout performances in field events. Dante Pangue, a 16-year-old athlete from Coronel, captured a gold medal in the shot put with a mark of 13.88 meters, a result tudeporteradio.cl credited to his training under coach Jaime del Campo. Additional athletics honors included a silver medal for Mariadelosangeles Muñoz in the long jump (5.36 meters) and a bronze for Florencia Lara in the 1,500-meter run.
The judo team also contributed four medals to the regional total. Lya Rodríguez claimed silver in the -78kg category, while bronze medals were awarded to Millaray Agurto (-58kg), Octavio Rocha (-90kg), and Sebastián González (-73kg).
Team Sports Progress
Biobío’s collective efforts extend beyond individual disciplines into team sports. The women’s football team recorded a 2-0 victory over Los Ríos. Meanwhile, the men’s football squad, which held a bye in the most recent round, enters the semifinal stage this afternoon against Neuquén with two prior wins in the tournament. Across the border in the Los Ríos region, other delegations are also tracking their progress; reports indicate that the Tierra del Fuego delegation finished the second day of competition with six total medals, highlighting a competitive atmosphere among the participating provinces and regions.

Tournament Context and Remaining Schedule
Biobío’s 160-athlete delegation is competing across eight disciplines: football, basketball, volleyball, swimming, cycling, judo, athletics, and the invitational sport of table tennis. While individual results have been confirmed, the overall team standings remain in flux as athletes continue to compete through the final window of the games.

The 33rd edition of the Binational Araucanía Games is set to continue through Friday, October 30, 2026. Representatives from Biobío are scheduled to participate in various final events as they pursue additional podium placements before the closing ceremony.
