New Judo Training Program Launched in Oldenburg for Youth Competition Preparation

Thirty-three young judoka from seven different clubs gathered at Sport-Club Hundsmühlen for the inaugural competition training session organized by the Judo-Arbeitskreis Oldenburg, marking a concerted regional push to boost youth tournament participation ahead of the second-half season.

Expanding Youth Competition Pathways

The regional judo working group launched the new training initiative to draw more children into competitive play. Noam Schmidt-Leffers, first chairman of the Judo-Arbeitskreis Oldenburg, spearheaded the effort after successfully establishing the new program designed to draw more children into competitive play.

The Sept. 12 session brought together 33 young participants representing seven distinct clubs within the region. Instructors Matheo, Emma, and Julian led the attendees through a structured curriculum tailored to prepare them for upcoming autumn and winter competitions.

Four-Stage Training Curriculum and Rule Education

Coaches divided the afternoon into four distinct phases to balance technical instruction with practical application. The schedule featured focused blocks on standing techniques (Tachi-waza) and ground techniques (Ne-waza), followed by initial sparring sessions (Randori).

The final phase of the program shifted from physical execution to regulatory understanding. Instructor Christoph Legler led the fourth unit, educating the young competitors on the essential rules and formal protocols governing official judo tournaments.

Regional Outlook and Future Hosting Plans

Organizers hope the concentrated preparation will translate directly into higher turnouts at regional mats. Schmidt-Leffers expressed satisfaction with the opening turnout and the collaborative response from area clubs.

“I hope that I will see many children from the competition training again at the next tournaments,” Schmidt-Leffers said, highlighting the encouraging momentum. “Furthermore, I am pleased about the willingness of some clubs to host the next competition training sessions.”
