According to local reports, the event brought together 32 of the world’s top-ranked archers representing 17 countries, accompanied by their respective multidisciplinary support teams. The competition unfolded across two days of outdoor matches staged in the heart of Coahuila’s capital. Coahuila Governor Manolo Jiménez Salinas attended the opening events, thanking World Archery for awarding the tournament to the state and emphasizing the institutional coordination required to host an international sports showcase of this magnitude.
Compound Division Highlights: Quintero and González Secure Podiums
Competition opened on Saturday with the compound events. Local archer Dafne Quintero captured a silver medal before a supportive home crowd in the women’s compound division. Quintero advanced to a closely contested final match against the United States competitor Alexis Ruiz, who ultimately claimed the gold medal. The bronze medal in the women’s bracket went to Sara López of Colombia.
In the men’s compound competition, Austrian competitor Nico Wiener claimed the gold medal, while Mathias Fullerton of Denmark secured the silver. Mexican archer Rodrigo González de Alba rounded out the podium by capturing the bronze medal for his performance.
Recurve Division: Bommadevara and Horackova Claim Gold
Sunday’s schedule transitioned to recurve events, beginning with early-round eliminations. Local athlete Matías Grande faced Turkey’s Mete Gazoz in the men’s recurve quarterfinals, exiting the bracket after a 6-4 loss despite displaying high precision under difficult weather conditions marked by intense heat.
India’s Dhiraj Bommadevara emerged as the champion in the men’s recurve category. Bommadevara secured the gold medal by defeating Japan’s Junya Nakanishi 6-5 in a tight final match that required a tie-breaking arrow. Mete Gazoz of Turkey claimed the bronze medal after overcoming France’s Jean Charles Balladont.
In the women’s recurve tournament, Czech competitor Marie Horackova claimed the gold medal. Horackova advanced past Mexican competitor Ana Paula Vázquez 6-4 in the early rounds. Another Mexican archer, Alejandra Valencia, advanced past Italy’s Roberta Di Francesco 7-3 before competition was briefly halted for nearly an hour due to an approaching storm threat. Following the resumption, Valencia fell to Horackova 6-0 in the semifinals and subsequently lost the bronze medal match 6-5 via a shoot-off arrow against Turkey’s Elif Gokkir. In the final round, Horackova secured the gold medal by defeating Germany’s Katharina Bauer 6-2.
