The upcoming championship match marks only the second professional meeting between Fritz and Jódar. Pegula and Eala Set Women’s Showdown
In the women’s draw at the Washington tournament, top-seeded American Jessica Pegula and Filipino rising star Alexandra Eala earned their places in the final. Pegula overcame a sluggish start against Russia’s Diana Shnaider, eventually prevailing 7-5, 6-4 in an 87-minute match. Despite squandering a 5-2 lead and a match point on her serve in the second set, the world number three steadied her game to secure her fourth final appearance of the year. Pegula, who captured her first career WTA title in Washington in 2019, will chase her twelfth career singles crown.
Her opponent, 21-year-old Alexandra Eala, advanced by defeating four-time Grand Slam champion Naomi Osaka 6-4, 6-2 in just one hour and 16 minutes. Eala, ranked 28th globally and coming off a strong run to the fourth round at Wimbledon, is searching for the first professional singles title of her career. Sunday’s final will be just the second meeting on the professional circuit between Pegula and Eala, following a three-set semifinal victory for the American at the 2025 WTA 1000 in Miami.
