Everton manager David Moyes has confirmed that Jack Grealish will not be available for Friday’s match against Coventry City, extending a disciplinary absence that has already kept the Manchester City loanee out of two games this week, Onsidesport.net reported.
Speaking Thursday ahead of the trip to Coventry, Moyes was direct when asked whether the 31-year-old midfielder was in contention: “No, Jack is not available.” He added that he would not lay out plans, “but we’ll be working with Jack again soon.”
Grealish missed both of Everton’s matches against Newcastle United last week — the Premier League fixture and the Carabao Cup tie — after what the club described as a breach of club discipline. The Toffees won the Premier League match at St James’ Park on Monday, but the club initially said Grealish had been left out because of insufficient physical fitness, and Moyes declined to comment at the time.
Moyes: Grealish Still Has a Future at Everton
After Monday’s victory, Moyes said Grealish still has a future at the club but could not specify when he would return to the team. Asked whether the upcoming international break could give Everton a window to resolve the situation, Moyes said: “We’ll have to wait and see how things develop.”
Moyes and Everton have remained tight-lipped about the specifics of the issue, which has been widely reported as stemming from an unauthorized absence from training. The club has not confirmed those details.

From £100 Million Star to Six Appearances This Season
Everton loaned Grealish in hopes of restarting his career after he dropped down Manchester City’s squad. The club had paid around £100 million for him in 2021, and he was central to their 2022–23 treble-winning season. His contract with City expires at the end of this season.
His first loan spell at Everton last season produced two goals in 22 appearances before an injury cut it short. He returned on a new loan this season but has managed just six appearances before losing his place in the team.
Grealish’s Everton Absence: What We Know
- Why is Grealish out? Everton has cited a breach of club discipline and, separately, insufficient fitness for Monday’s match. Reports of an unauthorized training absence are unconfirmed by the club.
- When will he return? Moyes said only that Everton will be “working with Jack again soon” and that the club will “wait and see” how things develop over the international break.
The next confirmed checkpoint comes with Everton’s return to action after the international break, with Moyes indicating the situation will be reassessed as events unfold.
