Badminton Championships: School District Results

Olpe district. The sports halls in Wenden, Attendorn and Olpe were transformed into venues for the second district school badminton championship on three consecutive days.

A total of eight schools from across the district took part in this cross-school event. Some schools had set up a badminton club in advance in order to prepare as best as possible. A school duel consisted of a girls’ and a boys’ doubles, three boys’ and three girls’ singles and a mixed doubles – nine games, of which at least five had to be won to win.

Years 9 and 10 started in the sports hall of the Wenden comprehensive school. Of the eight participating schools, the St. Franziskus School in Olpe and the Hanseatic School Attendorn qualified for the final. The St. Franziskus School was slightly favored due to the higher number of club players. However, the Hanseatic school was not impressed by this and fought a rousing battle.

Ultimately, however, the St. Franziskus School triumphed and defended its title from the previous year, while the Olpe Drolshagen secondary school secured third place against the St. Ursula High School Attendorn.

Years 7 and 8 play in Attendorn

The following day, seven schools and grades 7 and 8 met in the Attendorn circular gymnasium. Here too, the St. Franziskusschule Olpe made it to the final, but had to admit defeat after a spectacular match against the school team from the St. Ursula Gymnasium Attendorn. Rivius Gymnasium Attendorn secured third place after a close head-to-head race against the Hanseatic School.

However, in the final duel between grades 5 and 6 on the last match day in Olpe, the St. Franziskus School could not be beaten. The deciding game in the final against Olpe Municipal High School was also won confidently.

The game for third place between the Attendorn Hanseatic School and the Olpe Drolshagen Secondary School was the most exciting game of the day: with the score at 4:4, the final mixed doubles had to decide. Here the Hanseschule Attendorn won 14:12 in the third set.

Hoping for more participants

The Sparkassen Olpe and ALK supported the tournament by financing the trophies and medals for all 150 participants. After the premiere last year and the great experiences now, it has already been decided that the district school badminton championships will take place again in 2027.
