World Archery: Local Athletes Compete & Win

The Chanac archers, Sébastien Criquet and Gaëtan Velay, distinguished themselves during the Nîmes Archery Tournament 2026, the only French round of the indoor archery World Cup.

Despite very strong international competition, they delivered great performances. Out of 234 archers entered in their men’s recurve category, Gaëtan Velay finished in 113th place with 552 points, while Sébastien Criquet ranked 149th, with 533 points.

Although they did not advance to the finals of the main tournament, they qualified for the secondary tournament, where Sébastien Criquet took 35th place in his group and Gaëtan Velay 41st.

The tournament, which was held from Friday January 16 to Sunday January 18 in Nîmes, brought together 1,360 archers from forty-eight nations, confirming the Gard city as a true world capital of archery.

Beyond the rankings, this very high level competition constitutes a valuable experience for the archers of Chanac, who were able to measure themselves against the best shooters in the world and accumulate as much experience as possible for the next sporting events.
