Hidalgo del Parral, Chih.- The Municipal Judo Committee officially nominated Rubén Fernando Corral Shaar as a candidate for the Athlete of the Year 2025 contest in Parral, in the Senior Athlete category, after considering his outstanding competitive performance and his perseverance throughout the year, reported the president of the committee, Gabriel Gonzales.
The proposal was endorsed by the Mexican Judo Federation and supports the career of the athlete who is a member of the González Judo Club, who during 2025 accumulated outstanding results in the Veterans category, division of more than 100 kilograms, in all the competitions in which he participated.
“Rubén Fernando has been an example of discipline and perseverance; his achievements not only speak of medals, but of the commitment he has to judo and to Parral,” said Gabriel Gonzales, president of the Municipal Judo Committee.
Among the most relevant results of the year, Corral Shaar was crowned national runner-up in the championship held in Pachuca during the month of March, in addition to obtaining the international runner-up position in the Miami Open, consolidating himself as one of the most competitive veteran judokas in his division.
Likewise, he achieved the Pan American runner-up in Cancun, becoming a Pan American medalist for the second time, which reinforces his constant presence on the podium at the continental level.
At the global level, the Parralense judoka participated in the Veterans World Cup in Paris, where he obtained ninth place, marking his second attendance at a world championship, an experience that strengthened his international competitive level.
Added to these sporting achievements is his technical advancement, obtaining the degree of Ik Kyu, brown belt, recognition endorsed by the State Judo Association, a reflection of his evolution and commitment within this discipline.
With this nomination, the Municipal Judo Committee seeks for the 2025 Athlete of the Year contest to recognize a career built with perseverance, results and worthy representation of Parral on national and international stages.
