Speyer. Speyer is looking for the athletes of the year. On Wednesday, March 4th, at 5 p.m., a jury, which also includes an editor from the weekly paper, will vote on the matter. The weekly paper readers should decide which names we tick.
We are looking for the athlete, the team and the young athlete of the year. Special sporting achievements are honored. The Department of Schools and Sports received numerous nomination suggestions. Weekly newspaper readers can vote for their favorites here until March 3rd.
Who should be Athlete of the Year?
There is a choice Gina Jobes by MC Haßloch. She has won second place in the NES GP endurance race at the Nürburgring, first place twice at the NATC Endurance in Oschersleben and 12th and 15th place in the BMW Challenge 318ti Cup at the Nürburgring. Alesia Büttner competes for the Speyer Judo Sports Club. She brought a gold medal to Speyer at the German Championships.
Gudrun Strauss runs for the cycling association and has already come first four times in the race for the Palatinate Mountain Running Cup; She is the Palatinate champion in the 5000 meters and 400 meters. She came first in her age group at the half marathon in Frankfurt and in the mountain running challenge of the Inferno half marathon with an altitude difference of more than 2000 meters. Romy Neumer from the Weiß-Rot Tennis Club is Rhineland-Palatinate champion in U16 singles and U18 doubles, vice-Palatinate champion and took first place in the U18 association league.

Maximilian Brill from the Speyer rowing company took sixth place in the foursome with the U23 national team at the World Championships in Poznan and was second twice at the German vintage championships – in the foursome and in the eightman.
Franz Haettich from the Speyer Judo Sports Club returned from the Veterans Judo World Championships in Paris with a bronze medal.

“The Night Owls” from TSV offer jazz dance for active people 30+. They took second place in the Palatinate Gymnastics Association’s show competition “It’s Showtime”; They have qualified for the “Rendezvous of the Best” show event organized by the German Gymnastics Federation. Jonas-Pascal Liedy, Rayan Ziza and Victor Geschwind from the Shotokan Karate Dojo took third place as a team at the German Karate Championship U21.
The dressage riders Ramona Haass, Celine Lesueur and Anne Hartz from the Speyer Riding Club took second place at the Palatinate Championships in Zeiskam. Ole Bartenbach and Leon Gronbach from the Speyer Rowing Society won bronze at the U23 World Championships in Poznan, Poland. At the German Vintage Championships in Cologne they came first twice: in the eight and in the four. They also made it to the top of the podium in their age group at the German Small Boat Championships.
Die Men of JSV Speyer took 3rd place at the German club team championship. The Herren 55 from the White-Rot Tennis Club became champions of the association league last year.

Elias Zwick from the Shotokan Karate Dojo came first at the national karate U14 championship. fencer Artem Fedotov from TSV won silver at the Southwest German U15 championship in Zweibrücken. He became Saarland champion U15 and runner-up U13 in Neunkirchen. At an international open ranking tournament in Kaiserslautern, the U13 came first and the U15 came third. At the Circuit Jeunes Lames in Dinant in Belgium he achieved third place.
Weightlifter Amelie Drum from AV03 is Rhineland-Palatinate champion, South German champion and was appointed to the Rhineland-Palatinate state squad. Felix Kühner and Moritz Rügen from the Speyer Rowing Society won the double sculls at regattas in Mannheim and Heidelberg. They came in second at the German U15 Championship in Munich. At the Southwest German Championships in Trier in the 14 year old age group, Felix took first place and Moritz took second place. The two landed in first place in the double sculls and mixed double sculls.
The Junior team from JSV Speyer and JSV Kaiserslautern came third at the German team championship in Rüsselsheim. David Johannes Gutzler from Shotokan Karate Dojo took second place in individual kata at the Swiss Junior Open in March 2025 and first place in individual kata at the International Odenwald Cup in December. Johanna Noemi Gutzler also competed for Shotokan and took second place in the individual kata at the national championship. She came fifth in the individual kata at the International Budokan Cups in Dortmund and Berlin.
Carlo Roller from the cycling association came first in artistic cycling at the U11 Rhineland-Palatinate Championship. Linnea Maier from the Weiß-Rot Tennis Club is both indoor champion and Palatinate champion in the U9 age group. At the Ball des Sports on Saturday, March 14th, the winners will be announced and honored for their sporting successes.
