Interim leader of Venezuela
Delcy Rodríguez, the vice president since Nicolás Maduro was forcibly ousted, took over the leadership of Venezuela. The White House reportedly considers her the best choice for now. Rodríguez earned a prominent role primarily in Maduro’s cabinet, who first named her head of communications in the presidential office, then foreign minister and finally vice president, making her the second most powerful person in the country according to the constitution. When you add to that the favor that Rodríguez maintains among the generals of the Venezuelan army, it seems that she could really be the new leader of Venezuela, writes Venezuela expert Eduard Freisler on Seznam Zprávách.
Poland is already ordering high-speed trains
After Poland leapfrogged the Czech Republic in building the highway network, it is also gaining a head start on the railways. While in Poland they issued a tender for high-speed trains for new high-speed lines, the Czech VRT project may experience further delays. The new government admits the limitation of the planned network and the slower pace of preparations. Polish state carrier PKP Intercity requires 20 electric units capable of reaching speeds of at least 320 km/h with options for another 35 trains.
A Czech woman was injured in a fire in Switzerland
A tragic New Year’s Eve fire at the Le Constellation bar in the Crans-Montana ski resort killed 40 people and injured 119 others. According to information from the editorial office of Seznam Zpráv, one of those treated was a young Czech girl. The domestic authorities learned about it indirectly from the Swiss Federal Police.
Children are not “suitable” for us
The end of the year confirmed the sad statistics. Never before have so few children been born in the Czech Republic. But not only the decreasing number of mothers is to blame for this, but also the change of values in society. “Children simply stopped fitting into modern life,” says demographer Jiřina Kocourková for Seznam Zprávy.
