Vincent Kompany quitte l’hôpital après une méningite

Victime d’un malaise à l’entraînement, Vincent Kompany a quitté l’hôpital un mercredi, son état médical ayant été diagnostiqué comme une méningite. The 40-year-old manager had been hospitalized since Friday following a serious health incident at the training center after directing the first-team session and attending the reserve team’s practice. The Belgian coach had been fighting a virus in recent days and had missed several training sessions before collapsing, suffering convulsions before being rushed to a Munich clinic by a club doctor, an emergency doctor, and a rescue helicopter.

Max Eberl announced the discharge to television viewers shortly before kickoff in the DFB-Pokal match between Bayern and Magdeburg. The sports director explained that medical examinations determined the former player suffered from meningitis, which is an inflammation of the meninges protecting the brain and spinal cord, leading to the collapse during training. While a stroke and a heart attack had been ruled out following earlier examinations that involved convulsions and an emergency helicopter, the coach is now under treatment and pursuing his convalescence at home. During his hospitalization, club figures including president Herbert Hainer, honorary president Uli Hoeness, and sports director Max Eberl visited him.

Hospital Discharge and Ongoing Convalescence

Assistant coach Aaron Danks, who visited Kompany in the hospital for a brief, friendly chat that avoided football and tactics, and received a supportive “well played” text message after a 3-1 win against Freiburg—where Dayot Upamecano scored a wild goal—noted that the manager is in good spirits, seems to be doing better each day, and is recovering day by day. During the easily won match against Magdeburg, Danks remained at the helm to steer the German side through a demanding stretch of fixtures.

Upcoming Fixtures Without Kompany

The interim technical setup must navigate a punishing schedule on the short and medium term. Following the cup fixture against second-division Magdeburg, the Bavarians face Borussia Dortmund in the Klassiker in the Bundesliga on Saturday, before traveling to Spain to face Atlético Madrid in the Champions League on Tuesday.
