Katerina Emmons: Profile & Expertise

Olympic debut

It was under her maiden name of Kurkova that Katerina Emmons took part in her first Olympic Games in 2004 in Athens. She won a bronze medal in the 10m air rifle event and finished 27th in the 50m rifle three positions event.

A fateful meeting

It was in Athens that she met her future husband, American shooter Matthew Emmons. Matthew Emmons was leading in the final round of the 50m three positions, but he fired at the wrong target with his last attempt. The story goes that he met Katerina at the Olympic Village a few hours later and she helped console him after his misfortune.

New Olympic record

Katerina Emmons competed again for the Czech Republic at the Beijing 2008 Games. In the 10m air rifle qualifying round, she equalled the world record with a perfect score of 400 points before going on to win the event with a new Olympic record points total. Five days later, she claimed a silver medal in the 50m rifle three positions.
