Roosterse Badminton Club secured a 5-3 victory, consolidating its third-place standing in the national league standings, De Limburger reported. The match was brought forward in the schedule by the badminton federation to accommodate the European Team Championships in January.
How Roosterse Secured the Five-Point Win in The Hague
The Limburg squad built an early lead during the Saturday evening fixture after dropping only four wins in the previous weekend’s encounter against the same opponent. Noah Jongen and Marcello Kausemann opened the evening with a straightforward victory in the men’s doubles, posting scores of 21-15 and 21-12. Xenia Koelmel and Iris van Leijsen mirrored that performance in their opening phase.
The women’s doubles proved more contested, requiring three sets before Koelmel and Van Leijsen emerged victorious at 17-21, 21-12, and 21-18. Alexander Roovers and Vihaan Shah followed with straight-set wins in their respective singles matches, pushing Roosterse to a 4-0 advantage before the opposition mounted a response.
Late Resistance and Standings Implications
The host side narrowed the gap when both Xenia Koelmel and Stefanie Nijsse dropped their singles encounters. In the mixed doubles, the pairing of Marcello Kausemann and Lien Lammertyn lost their match, but Iris van Leijsen and Jasper Koppen sealed the team victory by winning their rubber.

Reflecting on the result, Jasper Koppen noted the team’s upward trajectory. „Vorige week 4-4 en nu 5-3, daar mogen we best trots op zijn,” Koppen told De Limburger, pointing to the improvement from the previous week’s draw.
The victory solidifies Roosterse in third place in the league table. At the conclusion of the regular season, a top-four finish guarantees qualification for the national title play-offs. Koppen, who has won six of his seven matches this season, expressed surprise at the team’s current position. The squad had initially anticipated battling around fifth place.
