Grégory’s Archery Dream: Overcoming Disability & Injury

Grégory Lefebvre, 43 years old, originally from Moncheaux, suffers from de Klinefelter’s syndrome since birth. This condition, which only affects boys, is due to the presence of an extra X chromosome. In addition, in October 2019, he suffered a serious accident at work. He fell from a construction site bungalow, which caused him multiple fractures. He still had to undergo jaw surgery seven times between February and June 2025!

For two years, Grégory has been practicing archery: “ I was looking for a sport to escape a little from the worries of daily life. I did a test at the Bailleul club and I liked it. I now train there four times a week “. His discipline is the bare bow, a rudimentary style of bow, for which no aiming or stabilization aid accessories are authorized. The bow weighs approximately 2.5 kg. During competitions, Grégory Lefebvre must shoot two series of 10 ends of 3 arrows, at a target placed at 18 meters and with a diameter of 60 cm.

At the beginning of December, he finished third during a selection for the French disabled archery championships, in Étaples, with a score of 350 out of 600. He is very satisfied with the progress he has already made. “ Despite 7 months without training, at the beginning of 2025, with my jaw problems, I progressed very quickly in just two years. It’s a great success in the face of the fight I face every day », declares the disabled archer.

Required to be licensed in Haute-Marne

Grégory will compete in another qualifying event in Coudekerque on January 11. He is ambitious and aims to finish on the first step of the podium. He is licensed to the club Archers of the Sources of Bourbonne-les-Bainsin Haute-Marne. It is indeed difficult for him to find a club in the region because the quota is limited for disabled sports. Which seems quite incomprehensible when inclusion through sport occurs in many disciplines.

He has lived in Merris for two years now, with Aurélie, his wife, who suffers from fibromyalgia. She accompanies him everywhere, to training, during competitions, and she also takes photos, to the delight of her champion. Very popular in Merris and supported by elected officials, it will soon make the front page of the municipal bulletin. However, his entire family still lives in Moncheaux and, with his performances, Grégory wants to pay tribute to his grandfather, who died last October.
