Cuban right-handed pitcher Joseph Arias recently arrived in the Dominican Republic with the goal of preparing for a future signing with a Big Leagues organizationas reported by journalist Francys Romero on Facebook.
Arias, 15, was part of the Cuba U-15 team that participated in the 2025 Pre-World Cup, where she attracted attention for her projection and dominance off the mound.
According to the report, the young pitcher has a fastball that reaches 87–88 mph, as well as good strike zone control, which positions him as a prospect to watch on the international market.
The righty will train at the Baseball Prospect Academy, located in San Cristóbal, one of the most active areas for the development of professional talent.
Joseph Arias will be eligible to sign with MLB starting January 15, 2028, when he will be eligible to officially enter the international contract system.
Arias’ case joins the growing number of young Cuban peloteros who they choose to develop their careers outside the islandseeking opportunities in professional baseball in the face of limitations of the state’s sports system.
