The Cuban right-hander Joseph Arias recently came to the Dominican Republic with the goal of preparing for a future signing with a major league organizationas journalist Francys Romero points out Facebook reported.
Arias, 15 years old, was part of Cuba’s U-15 team that took part in the 2025 Premundial and attracted attention for his potential and dominance on the pitch.
According to the report, the young pitcher has a fastball that reaches speeds of 87-88 mph as well as good strike zone control. These qualities make him a promising talent in the international market.
The right will train at the Academia Baseball Prospect in San Cristóbal, one of the most active areas for talent development with a view to professionalism.
Joseph Arias will be eligible to sign a contract with MLB beginning January 15, 2028, on which date he will officially enter the international signing system.
Arias’ case joins the growing number of young Cuban baseball players who aim to develop their careers outside the islandas they seek opportunities in professional baseball given the limitations of the state sports system.
