Kenneth Perez is very pleased with Joël Drommel. The Sparta Rotterdam goalkeeper has been impressive lately and was also worth gold for the Kasteelheren in the match against FC Utrecht (0-1 win). In This was the Weekend the Dane expresses his admiration for the goalkeeper.
“He has certainly recovered fantastically in his career,” Perez says about Drommel. “He had an excellent start at Twente, but was unable to show what he can actually do at PSV. He started this season rather hesitantly, but has now already saved points for Sparta in three or four games. If it had become 3-1 for Utrecht today, that would not have been surprising.”
Bram van Polen is also impressed by Drommel. “He really makes world-class saves, and often several times during a match. That is crucial for Sparta. Those are moments that allow you to look up.” Drommel’s shape reminds Perez of another renowned Eredivisie goalkeeper. “It’s one of those Unnerstall rescues,” Perez says. “At the time when Unnerstall really scored points for Twente. Drommel now does that for Sparta, which is really nice for that boy.”
