A few minutes before the plane crashed, Cristina Grossu, the wife of the former automobile champion, sent a last message to her mother, Cathy.
Chilling words. Shortly before the plane crash that claimed the lives of her, her husband, Greg Biffle, and their children, Cristina Grossu sent a final message to her mother. “She texted me from the plane saying We are in danger. And then nothing,” Cathy Grossu tells People magazine. Before adding: “We are devastated. We are heartbroken. »
The tragedy occurred on Thursday, December 18, as the family was preparing to leave for a birthday trip to Florida (United States). The plane took off before turning around and crashing at the Statesville, North Carolina, airport.
On board the plane were former racing driver Greg Biffle, 55, his wife, Christina Grossu Biffle, their son Ryder, 5, Greg’s daughter from a previous union, Emma, 14, as well as three other passengers. All seven died in the accident.
“It’s simply unbearable”
“To think that they were killed during a trip for a birthday… such a happy moment for the family,” regrets Cathy Grossu to the American magazine. The way this all ended is so horrible, it’s just unbearable. I can’t believe they’re gone. »
The day before the accident, the family was at home. “I don’t remember the last words I said to my daughter, to Greg or to my precious Ryder,” adds the grieving grandmother. “I know we hugged, but I don’t remember those last words and it will haunt me,” she continues, very moved.
According to her, Christina Grossu Biffle and her family “embraced life to the fullest” and “enjoyed every moment.” “It’s a huge loss. They touched the lives of so many people. It’s so hard to accept.”
One of the last conversations the two women have is about sending Christmas letters to families in need that Cristina wanted to send before boarding the plane. “Bring joy. It’s the last thing she will have done,” underlines the mother, very proud of what her daughter has accomplished.
