Chelsea January Transfer: Striker Search After Delap Injury

Not only did Chelsea draw 0-0 at the weekend, they were also dealt a huge injury blow with the news that Liam Delap was set to miss some time.

The forward could miss 6 to 8 weeks due to a shoulder dislocation and, according to TeamTalkthe club are now considering bringing forward to January the deal already confirmed for this summer to sign Emanuel Emegha to help. The striker has fallen out with the fans of our sister club, Strasbourg, and could move early.

We were pretty sure we would see this story, and we’re not sure we believed it. It may happen, but it feels like this report is simply putting two and two together after the injury rather than providing truly unique information.

We too could happily speculate that Chelsea and Strasbourg may now think it is better for all parties to bring forward the move, but that doesn’t mean we have specific information on the matter.

There is also a counterargument: assuming that Emegha needed a couple of weeks after arriving at Chelsea to get into match shape and be ready to start with Enzo Maresca, by then Delap could already be back.

We’re all imagining that the new one will break in right away, but there are no guarantees. Delap already had one Premier League season under his belt and is struggling; the same could easily happen with Emegha.
