Jovent Gironí travels 2,040 kilometers in five days to support Girona FC

Jovent Gironí traveled 2,040 kilometers across five days to support Girona FC during their matches against Cuarte de Huerva in the Copa del Rey and Real Sociedad B in Segunda División at Zubieta, diaridegirona.cat reported.

The Road to Cuarte de Huerva and Zubieta

The supporters’ group started their grueling travel schedule on Tuesday by heading to Zaragoza for Girona’s opening fixture in the Copa del Rey. Operating on a tradition that includes previous away trips such as a November 2022 journey to Quintanar del Rey, the group covered the 400-kilometer distance from Estadi de Montilivi to Camp Municipal de Cuarte de Huerva. After watching Girona secure a victory, the group faced a mechanical breakdown during the return trip that delayed their arrival home until around 4 a.m. following an 18:30 kickoff.

Four days later, the contingent traveled another 620 kilometers each way to reach Zubieta for a league fixture against Real Sociedad B. Positioned in a corner of the ground just as they had been in Cuarte de Huerva, the supporters made their presence felt despite the accumulation of travel fatigue.

Prior Travels and Champions League Nights

The extensive mileage builds on a busy travel calendar that already featured a journey to Cádiz covering more than 2,400 kilometers earlier in the season. During the previous campaign, the group followed the squad through difficult moments, including an away draw against Levante at the Ciutat de València, a January defeat at Oviedo, and an early-season fixture in Vigo.

Those domestic struggles contrasted with the club’s historic UEFA Champions League campaign, which saw Jovent Gironí members travel to Milan, Eindhoven, and Paris for the fixture at the Parc des Princes. Head coach Quique Álvarez praised the supporters for their mobilization capacity, expressing surprise at the sheer scale of their dedication.

“This is the life we chose. Midweek and miles away from home. Always present wherever you play,” the group posted on social media after the victory in Zaragoza. Joan Fonalleras, a member of the supporters’ group, reflected on the journey by stating, “From San Siro to Cuarte, and with the same enthusiasm as always.”

Local Initiatives at Montilivi

Beyond away matches, Jovent Gironí maintains its connection to the club through home initiatives in Girona. The group established the Palco dels Sastres, serving as a pre-match gathering point for supporters outside Montilivi before home fixtures. The initiative has grown into a successful hub for the fanbase ahead of matchdays.

The supporters’ group coordinates ongoing travel arrangements through its official communication channels, with additional away trips planned as the Segunda División season continues.
