By presenting a recognition to Lauro Campos Fuentes, promoter of archery in the state of Chihuahua, a field was inaugurated where this discipline can be practiced in the Jardines de Saucito neighborhood, which was created thanks to the “Participatory Budget” program of the Municipal Government.
The above, within the framework of the “Sports Route in your Neighborhood” carried out by the Municipal Institute of Physical Culture and Sports (IMCFD), with neighbors, young people and the community that practices archery, who were looking for a space within the city to have greater reach, promotion and development.
The event brought together new talents, including minors who are interested in adopting new technical, mental and physical strength skills. The objective of this sport is to score the most points by shooting at a fixed point, which involves the archer holding the bow with one hand and tensioning the string with the other, placing an arrow that must be released smoothly so that the projectile flies stably towards the target.
Archery has its modalities and variations, this is the case of recurve archery considered an Olympic sport where the Chihuahuan Andrés Anchondo has represented the country in three Olympic Games: Seoul 88, Barcelona 92 and Atlanta 96, who went through the school of the honoree Lauro Campos Fuentes.
Another variation of archery is compound, traditional, 3D and field archery.
The director of the IMCFD, Juan Abdo highlighted the coordinated work carried out in this sports complex where basketball, soccer, recreational activities are promoted and now strengthen new generations of archery.
For her part, the director of the Citizen Participation Coordination Laura Contreras, highlighted the work of the Participatory Budget, which consisted of the creation of a basketball court, with a goal, basket and cyclone mesh, the adaptation of a cement slab with benches for archery practice, in addition to the concrete paths and pergolas.
As part of the Sports Route in your Neighborhood in Jardines del Saucito, the Abadá-Capoeira Chihuahua school exhibition dedicated to this multidisciplinary art was held, where the participation of Gabriel Navarro, world runner-up, stood out; The Municipal Sports Registry, the ‘Ponte Bien’ measurement program and a free barber and haircut service provided by the ‘Del Barrio Shop’ school were also carried out.
