Milan ready to bring a top player back to Serie A. It all depends on another ongoing negotiation with a somewhat uncertain outcome
First in the standings and expected by Sassuolo on Sunday in Serie A and by the Final Four of the Italian Super Cup next week. The market certainly cannot be a priority for Milan in a month of December that was already decisive for Allegri and his team.
Yet, despite the championship lead, it is an ongoing negotiation that keeps the Rossoneri fans anxious. We are referring to the possible Mike Maignan’s contract renewal. From total stalemate we have moved on to a possible opening. The parties are still distant but in recent days Milan’s desire to at least try to restart contacts with the goalkeeper’s entourage has emerged, which – we remind you – will expire at the end of the season.
Maignan’s performances in the first part of the season demonstrated how the goalkeeper, as well as captain of the Rossoneri, has returned to being decisive on the pitch after last year, which was certainly not excellent in terms of performance. For Allegri, Maignan must stay and a direct intervention from the coach himself cannot be ruled out to convince the goalkeeper who is asking for a salary much higher than the one currently received of 2.8 million net per season.
Renewal in the balance for Maignan, here are the two possible replacements
With Maignan’s renewal still in the balance, Milan are inevitably already exploring some possible replacements. In recent hours he has been linked to the Rossoneri Alisson Becker of Liverpool. The Brazilian goalkeeper, at Roma from 2016 to 2018, has a contract expiring in 2027 and, at the moment, there is no room for a renewal considering that the Reds have already invested in the replacement by signing the Georgian Mamardashvili from Valencia.
At 33 years old and with one year remaining on his contract, Alisson could be sold at the end of the season to a reasonable price from Liverpool. An eventuality that intrigues the suitors, including Milan, who however will inevitably have to deal with the salary currently received by the Reds goalkeeper who it is 8 million per season and out of reach for the Rossoneri coffers.
For this reason, Milan have already explored another Brazilian goalkeeper, younger than Alisson. It’s about Hugo Souzaborn in 1999 at Corinthians. Sky Sport revealed Milan’s interest in the player. Souza has a valuation of 12 million euros and, recently, he also made his debut for the Brazilian national team with coach Ancelotti who started him in the friendly against Japan.
Speaking of foreign goalkeepers for after Maignan, Milan is also on the trail of Zion Suzuki of Parma (already sought last summer when Maignan was one step away from Chelsea) and of Noah Atubolu of Freiburg. In Serie A, however, he was linked to the Rossoneri Elia Caprile of Cagliari.
