Judo Stars Converge for Inaugural Ushiro Club Training Camp
The Guillermo Molina pavilion buzzed with energy this past Saturday as the Ushiro Club hosted its inaugural judo training camp, drawing nearly a hundred athletes from Ceuta, La Línea, and gibraltar. The event wasn’t just a local gathering; it was a meaningful step forward for the sport in the region, highlighted by the presence of a true judo legend.
World Champion Inspires next Generation
Headlining the camp was veteran world champion Ángel Benavides, who led a dynamic technical session designed to elevate training standards and foster camaraderie among the participating judokas. Benavides’ expertise was on full display as he guided athletes thru a series of drills and techniques.
The morning kicked off with a special session for the younger judokas. Benavides shared basic principles and engaging enhancement exercises, laying a strong foundation for their judo journeys. Following this, he transitioned into a masterclass for the adult participants, which generated considerable excitement among the families who packed the pavilion’s stands, eager to witness the high-level instruction.
Promoting Regional Sportsmanship
Rafa Muñoz, president of both the Ceuta Judo Federation and the Ushiro Club, emphasized the importance of hosting elite athletes in the city. This is all about promoting a strong connection between our cities,
Muñoz stated. We’ve welcomed judokas from La Línea and Gibraltar, and the turnout of nearly a hundred participants speaks volumes about the enthusiasm for this event.
New Mats Mark a New Era for Ceuta Judo
A significant development accompanying the training camp was the debut of the brand-new tatami, recently acquired by the Ceuta Judo Federation. This upgrade, a long-standing goal for Muñoz, promises to enhance the practice of judo in the region.
We extend our sincere thanks to sergio Aguilera and Araceli García for their dedication in securing this essential tatami. its acquisition is crucial for the proper practice of judo, and it will allow us to host activities with greater frequency and comfort moving forward.

World-class Presence Elevates Local Talent
Muñoz also underscored the immense value of having a world champion like Benavides present. The visit of personalities such as Ángel Benavides substantially elevates the level of local judo,
he explained. It serves as a powerful motivator for both the children and the judokas from Campo de Gibraltar who have traveled to Ceuta.
The training camp unfolded in an atmosphere of mutual respect and dedicated learning. Participants engaged in warm-up routines, honed specific techniques, and participated in spirited sparring sessions. All of this took place on the new, state-of-the-art tatami at Guillermo Molina, providing an ideal habitat for both enjoyment and skill development.
