In March 2024, Christine van der Meer and Ronald Koenis van Osm Badminton took the initiative to investigate together with the National Elderly Association whether OldStars Badminton could be organized on their badminton association. OldStars Badminton is badminton, but at a lower pace, because you no longer have to cover all corners. Thanks to municipal subsidies and a reservation by the board, there was an acceptable budget. The time came out on Friday evening. Potentially a problem, because who of the target group still wants badmintonen so late? They took the gamble. Trainers Fréderique Vrolijk and Monique Fokker joined and in preparation they all went on a course.
Prior to the start on October 4, they spent a lot of time on publicity. The target group was reached via flyers, mailings and news items on sites and in the newspaper. There was a dozen OldStars on the Kickoff. A great start and piece by one they wanted through. People were injured, but the group grew steadily through word of mouth. In fact, the season before the OldStars would stop in March, but everyone wanted to continue until June.
In the first months, Monique and Ronald worked on the lesson content: a new warm-up game form was worked out every week based on the Athletics Skills Model and a technical part was discussed. And then hit a shuttle. But the attraction was also in the third half: the drink connects afterwards.
The OldStars also enjoyed the TOSS tournaments. That has now become a standard part of the annual program. Almost all OldStars were present at the closing final tournament and a new Oldstar was reporting. In the last third half, despite injuries, Oud-Holdstars came by and presents were exchanged, because: everyone enjoys this initiative.
Are you interested in participating? The OldStars are on vacation and start again from October. Not everyone takes a vacation, because agreements have already been made to play together on the free Summer Badminton evenings, every Monday of the summer holidays in the Fazantenkamphal from 20:00.
