Massy Mayor Promotes 90,000-Seat Stadium Project for PSG

While club leadership maintains a preference for acquiring and expanding the historic Parc des Princes, complications with the Paris city council have kept alternative locations in play. Among them, the Essonne commune of Massy has put forward an ambitious proposal for an 80,000 to 90,000-seat stadium.

Massy Nicolas Samsoen has stepped up his commune’s campaign to host the club, pitching a newly constructed arena in a designated former commercial zone. Speaking to Les Échos, Samsoen defended the technical reliability of the project. “I have no doubt that the project works technically. We have a calm approach, avoiding impatient juvenile enthusiasm and irrational fear,” Samsoen said.

The municipality highlights its established transport infrastructure and road networks as key assets to handle large-scale matchday crowds. According to Foot Mercato, municipal studies suggest that spectator surges would not cause major disruptions for local residents. However, the path forward in Massy carries potential political hurdles, including the possibility of a local referendum in 2027 that could complicate the bid.

Parc des Princes Remains the Priority Despite Obstacles

Despite external proposals from Massy and Poissy, the primary objective for Qatar Sports Investments (QSI) remains staying at the Parc des Princes. As reported by Foot01, club ownership wants to buy the Porte de Saint-Cloud venue outright and expand its capacity while developing a surrounding PSG entertainment district.

That option faces steep political resistance. The Paris city council must agree to a permanent sale of the stadium, and the club would need to manage complex engineering work within the confines of the existing venue and the capital's ring road. Because negotiations with municipal officials in Paris remain difficult, leadership is actively vetting external locations.

The Decisive Dec. 20 Checkpoint

The steering committees for Paris, Poissy, and Massy have concluded their initial pilot meetings, setting up a critical evaluation period for club executives.

The Dec. 20 decision will not finalize the stadium’s ultimate location, but it will establish a definitive primary option while keeping the other two sites as operational fallbacks. Once that choice is made, the club plans to spend several months refining the dossier with a target horizon of 2035 or later for completion.
