BarcelonaIsraeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu thanked on Sunday the message that his American counterpart, Donald Trump, published on social media the night before, in which he expressed his support for a possible pardon for Netanyahu, currently tried on several crimes of corruption.
Trump wrote: “Release Bibi, he has a great task to do!”, Referring to the Israeli leader for his nickname. In response, Netanyahu exhibited this Sunday morning through the X platform: “Thank you again, @realdonaldrump. Together we will make the Middle East again great!”
Trump’s message, published on Saturday, used a more forceful tone than in previous interventions. He even questioned the continuity of the annual military aid that the United States grants to Israel – valued at $ 3.8 billion – if the charges against Netanyahu are not removed. Trump described the judicial situation of the Israeli Prime Minister as “terrible”, to whom he described as a “war hero” and a key leader in collaboration with the USA to stop the alleged Iranian nuclear threat. The former American president criticized the fact that Netanyahu had to attend the court daily, calling the “political witch hunt” process, and compared it to his own judicial causes in the US, which also calls for witch hunts driven by the Democratic Party: “ It is seated all day for nothing. ” Trump concluded by stating: “We have just won a great victory with Netanyahu at the helm, and this seriously clouds this success. Libera in Bibi, has a great job to do!”
Netanyahu is the first active head of government in Israel to face a criminal process. It is charged with three crimes: bribe, fraud and confidence abuse in three separate cases. The common axis of the accusations is the use of their relationships with powerful tycoons – with the influence of the media – to obtain personal and political benefits.
Negotiations with Hamas and pressure from the family members
The President of the United States also emphasized that Netanyahu is now immersed in Hamas negotiations for an agreement that would include the release of hostages. These claims come after Trump said that a truce agreement in Gaza could close in a week, a forecast that Israeli sources believable to the media. For months, in fact, there is a proposal for agreement on the table. Hamas Islamists have expressed their disposal to free all hostages, but in return they demand the end of Israeli attacks and the withdrawal of the Gaza Strip troops, which Netanyahu rejects.
This Sunday the forum that brings together the majority of the kids of the abducted has again requested that an agreement be reached. After the Government has decided that there is no obstacle for neighbors in the areas near Gaza to return home, the forum responds taxative in a statement: “Then there is no impediments to end the fighting on the strip.”
Relatives say that “the mission of defeating Hamàs has been completed” and that “Israel has managed to eliminate the threat”. In his opinion, this opens the door to “a comprehensive agreement for the return of the fifty hostages that are still in Gaza”, some living and other deaths.
