Viterbo – Stella Carni Viterbo under 15 baseball returns from the Acilia concentration with two victories and consolidates first place in the group.
The first match of the day saw the Baseball Club take the field against the young Roma Brewers team winning 20-7.
On the pitching mound, Stavagna, supported by a splendid defence, fulfilled his role well assisted by a valid attack from his teammates. A clear victory for Viterbo which included three singles from Pietrini, a double and a triple from Fortunati, one valid each for Eiguchi Di Martino and Cabrera.
In the second match the two teams on the field played a beautiful baseball game, so much so that two extra innings were needed to decide the winning team. The Viterbo team won 6-5.
In the first inning the Acilia boys start very determined and take the lead by two points. In the following attack Viterbo closes the gap thanks to Cabrera. The two pitchers lined up, Moliterni for Acilia and Eiguchi Di Martino for Viterbo, supported by splendid defenses, take center stage and no longer concede anything to the opposing hitters.
It is a mutual chase between the two teams, an alternation of pitchers for Viterbo between Fortunati and Cabrera. The draw between the two teams inevitably leads to extra innings.
At this point the game becomes very engaging and both teams put on a wonderful show.
In the first extra inning Acilia scored only one point, thanks to a splendid catch by third baseman Torri who managed to eliminate two opponents. In the following attack, Viterbo equalizes thanks to the Mazza brothers: Vittorio scores his brother Alessio who is on third base with a precise bunt, then the excellent Casoria stops the rest of Viterbo’s batters.
In the second extra inning Cali Roma scores again, but the Baseball Club defense doesn’t give up: the catcher Fortunati catches the Cali runner off base who is then eliminated by the same catcher assisted by Torri. In the last attack the visiting team manages to score the two points which lead to the victory and the lead in the standings.
Manager Fortunati’s comment: “We return from Acilia with two important victories that allow us to consolidate first place in the group with three games ahead of Cali Roma with four matchdays to go. Even if mathematics doesn’t tell us that we won our qualifying group for the regional finals, the ranking gives us hope. I want to congratulate the boys of Viterbo and Cali Roma for the beautiful match played, one of those that they make you fall in love with this wonderful sport. Both faced each other with healthy competitiveness and with the desire to bring home the result. The technical staff deployed all the forces available to bring home the result. The turning point of the match for us was the reversal of the catcher-launcher Fortunati-Cabrera and above all the desire to win that the boys showed on the field. But now we have to stay focused on the remaining games and continue to win.”
