Wouter Vrancken is told: “If that is correct, it is inappropriate” – Football News

The sudden departure of Wouter Vrancken raises many eyebrows. That is also the case with Marc Degryse.

The analyst writes in Het Laatste Nieuws that he finds Wouter Vrancken’s departure from KRC Genk “strange to say the least”. He draws this conclusion after statements by KRC Genk itself.

“If I understood Dimitri De Condé correctly, he received a phone call from Vrancken’s entourage before the first match against Club Brugge. If that is correct, I think something like this is inappropriate for Vrancken, who must undoubtedly have been aware of that initiative from his entourage.”

Especially because things were going swimmingly for the Limburgers at the time, with 10 out of 12. “All observers called them a title candidate again, and then you are going to make a phone call to the club to report that you would like to go to KAA Gent?”

According to Degryse, Vrancken and De Condé had not been on the same page for some time, especially after the departure of Munoz, Arteaga and Paintsil. Vrancken felt that his core did not have enough quality, De Condé said that Vrancken could get more out of it.

Elimination in cup and Europe

“On the one hand, I can understand Vrancken that the club took away a lot of quality from him in the winter, and in particular did not provide scoring ability, on the other hand, Racing Genk was eliminated from the cup before the winter with the boys mentioned by second division Ostend, and went from the preliminary rounds in the Champions League to not even European football.”

The club’s reaction is therefore completely understandable. “I can understand the board’s resentment there. The marriage was doomed to fail, but it is sad that it would end so ugly.”
