Excellently organized by the University of Zaragoza, in the town of Jaca, on Saturday the 10th, one of the traditionally most demanding #CEU2024 competitions was held, attended by a large number of judokas with a high national level, and on occasions, with important international ranking.

Unequal results for the athletes from the University of Extremadura, who at all times gave the maximum of their possibilities on the tatami.

  • Francisco Manso did not pass a first fight and did not advance in the repechage, since his part of the draw was one of the most populated and complicated.
  • Paula Vélez managed to access the repechage, but was unable to advance in the fight for the medals.
  • Raquel Salazar lost her second round match and also fell in the repechage and, although she came close, she was not able to qualify for the metal matches.

The one who did come close to touching the bronze was Francisco González, who, after passing three rounds, lost in the semifinals, but with the option of getting third place, which he finally did not achieve, when he was defeated by the judoka from the Polytechnic of Madrid. Magnificent fifth place for the Extremaduran in a weight, -73 kg, with a large number of entrants, the majority of very remarkable technical quality.

From SAFYDE-UEx we acknowledge the four athletes for their dedication and commitment to representing the University of Extremadura so worthily.

Special thanks to Coach Javier Rodríguez and the Extremaduran Judo Federation, for the important support provided in this championship, which, once again, has had the sponsorship of the Youth and Sports Foundation and the General Directorate of Youth and Sports of the Government of Extremadura.
