Atlanta Hawks Secure First Pick in 2024 NBA Draft in Unexpected Turn of Events

Clint Capela’s Atlanta Hawks created a surprise and obtained the first pick in the 2024 NBA draft on Sunday. A first for the Georgia-based franchise.

The Hawks, who finished the regular season in tenth place in the Eastern Conference, had only a 3% chance of winning the lottery held in Chicago. The Hawks will therefore be the first to choose the player they wish to recruit from the pool of young basketball players who are entering the draft, on June 26 and 27.

Unlike 2023, where Victor Wembanyama was almost certain to be chosen first, the No. 1 choice is not as obvious this year, but two Frenchmen are once again among the favorites. These are the hopeful Alexandre Sarr, whose season with the Perth Wildcats in Australia has just ended, and Zaccharie Risacher, who plays as a winger in Bourg-en-Bresse.
