It’s a great day at work for Tray Buchanan. A few hours after being elected Pro B MVP, the Stade Rochelais point guard has just been announced as the first recruit of the Le Mans off-season. He signed up for one season. This is the first reinforcement stamped by Guillaume Vizade, the next MSB coach.
A first experience in Cyprus
Arriving in La Rochelle last summer from the Cypriot championship, where he stood out for his first experience in Europe (22.7 points, 4.9 rebounds and 3.7 assists), Tray Buchanan performed brilliantly adapted to French basketball.
The American guard, born in Illinois and trained in the NCAA (North Dakota, then South Dakota State), greatly contributed to the epic of Stade Rochelais this year, the Charente-Maritime club preparing to compete the Pro B accession playoffs with the status of number one seed.
A permanent offensive danger, Tray Buchanan finished the 2023-2024 regular season as the second best scorer in the championship, with 17.4 points scored on average per game (accompanied by 2.5 rebounds, 2.9 assists and 15.6 devaluation). But beyond the numbers, it is his overall impact on his team’s results that crowned him Pro B MVP.
His ease with the ball, his explosiveness and his long-range skill (41.4% 3-point success) have wreaked havoc all season in the elite antechamber. Among his most notable performances this year, his 25 points scored in the 4th quarter at Gries on April 4, or his 45 points at Denain on December 8 (49 evaluation!), particularly marked the minds of the observers.
