Swiatek against a qualifier in the 1st round of Roland-Garros, the French women not spared

The women’s draw for Roland-Garros (May 26-June 9) is now known. The defending champion and world No. 1, the Polish Iga Swiatek, will face a player from qualifying in the first round. The other favorite of this tournament, the world No. 2 crowned at the start of the year at the Australian Open, Aryna Sabalenka, will begin her fortnight against the Russian Erika Andreeva. On paper, Swiatek could challenge Coco Gauff (3rd) in the semi-finals, while Sabalenka will try to reach a place in the final against Elena Rybakina (4th).

For their part, the French inherited a generally complicated draw, with several seeded players to face from the first round. Caroline Garcia (23rd) will face a player from qualifying. For her last Roland-Garros, Alizé Cornet will challenge the Chinese Zheng Qinwen, seeded n°7. The second Frenchwoman in the WTA ranking, Clara Burel (43rd), will have to defeat the number 23 seed, the Russian Anna Kalinskaya. There will also be a Franco-French duel, with a confrontation between Diane Parry (61st) and Fiona Ferro (142nd).
