JaVale McGee Aims to Extend NBA Career, Sets Sights on Two Decades in the League

JaVale McGee is very clear about what he wants for his future. The 36-year-old veteran center spent last season with the Sacramento Kings for the 16th of his career. Is his retirement close? Not at all. So much so that he aims to join the club of players who spent two decades in the NBA.

«Kareem Abdul-Jabbar played for 20 years and did so at a very high level for 20 years. That was before you had a physical therapist for every player and ACL surgery could be recovered in six months… You know what I’m saying? There is a lot of progress now and a lot of things in the world that make it easier. “I’m not saying it’s easy, but it’s easier to last a long time, so I definitely think it’s possible for me,” he tells Marcus D. Smith of The Sacramento Bee.

As for the next step in his career, McGee does not hide that he wants to continue with the team in the California capital; Of course, he believes that a large part of the chances of doing a good job in the 2024-25 season depend on them managing to renew Malik Monk.

«Definitely getting Malik back is important, as well as adding more guys to the team. I feel that the squad is well put together. “We just need to make sure everyone is on the same page,” he says.
