Premier League: Arsenal and City without weakness in the title race

Arsenal FC and Manchester City won their home games comfortably and are continuing to move forward in the Premier League. Erling Haaland even scored his first four-pack for City. In the second division, Ipswich Town achieved promotion and is returning to the Premier League after 22 years.

League leaders Arsenal won 3-0 against AFC Bournemouth on Saturday (May 4th, 2024) and increased their points account to 83 points on matchday 36.

But champions Manchester City also completed their mandatory task confidently and still have the title win in their own hands after the 5-1 win against Wolverhampton Wanderers. The Skyblues (82) are one point behind Arsenal but still have one more game to play.

Erling Haaland shone with his first Premier League four-pack and kept Manchester City on course for their fourth championship title in a row. The Norwegian star striker scored a hat-trick in the first half – and added another goal after the break.

Liverpool FC, with 75 points and only a minimal chance of the title, welcomes Tottenham on Sunday (5.30 p.m.).

Havertz wins a penalty to give Arsenal the lead

Bukayo Saka put Arsenal on course with a safely converted penalty just before half-time (45th minute) after Kai Havertz was brought down in the penalty area by Bournemouth keeper Mark Travers.

Leandro Trossard made the preliminary decision, in the middle of a stormy phase for the guests, the Belgian striker (70th) finished after careful preparatory work by Declan Rice. Rice, the Gunners’ best man, also made the final score 3-0 in the seventh minute of stoppage time.

Ipswich Town returns to the English Premier League after 22 years. The 1981 UEFA Cup winners completed their move from the third to the first division with a 2-0 win against Huddersfield Town.
