It has been in the pipeline for a few months, the Phoenix Suns have now confirmed the project. Starting next season, the franchise will have an affiliated team in G League : hello and welcome to the Valley Suns.

This season, 29 of the 30 NBA teams had a little sister at the lower level. A town of diehards in Arizona resisted, but will finally switch to the norm starting next October. The Valley Suns were officially presented to the general public this Wednesday.

G League teams have proven to be very useful to NBA franchises, as development laboratory for young players in need of playing time. We can cite Brice Sensabaugh (Utah Jazz), Dominic Barlow (San Antonio Spurs) or Jalen Wilson (Brooklyn Nets) among many others, who spent a few weeks with their G League groups before contribute to the NBA.

Concerning the Phoenix Suns, we think in particular of Théo Maledon, recovered during the season, who had been forced to stay on the bench the evenings when Frank Vogel did not feel like playing him. From now on, the suns will be able to send their kids to have fun on wooden floors instead of carrying bottles and towels. And it’s still nicer.

We don’t tell you how much we can’t wait to write you papers when Ousmane Dieng scores 32 points against the Valley Suns on a Tuesday at 4:30 a.m., or that a guy will set a buzzer without doing it on purpose. How much we love the G League, and how spoiled we are.
