Paula Pareto and Laura Martinel Sacrifice Scholarships for Young Judo Athletes

After being coordinator of the youth judo teams, Paula Pareto and his former coach and current coach of the Argentine Judo Confederation, Laura Martinelthey will renounce the scholarships of the National Sports Secretariat to cede them to the athletes because of the drastic reduction of quotas by the national Government, the current undersecretary of Sports and former mayor Julio Garro explained the Government’s position on networks.

“Probably pursued by the desire and passion to seek excellence in the sport that they represent, they overshadowed and minimized the effort made by the National State through the Undersecretariat of Sports to face the Paris 2024 Olympic Games and begin the next quadrennium with a view to to Los Angeles 2028. In the same way as the ENARD (National High Performance Sports Entity) with its exclusive dedication in that aspect,” he began.

According to him, the undersecretary recently met with the Argentine Judo Confederation and there they agreed to deliver “the same amount of scholarships that the Confederation has from ENARD.” At the same time, he said that “these scholarships should not necessarily be a mirror of the names awarded by ENARD” and that neither Pareto nor Martinel were present at said summit.

Without denying that there were only four scholarship recipients left, Garro said that ENARD invests 350 thousand dollars annually for judo, which includes “Laura Martinel’s 2 million pesos per month.” Regarding Paula, he said that he receives a scholarship from ENARD and another from the Undersecretariat of Sports which, “unfortunately, he decided to give up.”

Finally, it was questioned: “Beyond the valid proposition, this made me raise other questions: What is the economic contribution that many of the national federations make in a scenario in which we all make a great effort to be able to arrive in the best way to everything that comes?”

Paula Pareto and Laura Martinel gave up their scholarships to give them to the youngest

In an interview in TyCSports, Paula Pareto and Laura Martinel commented on the current situation of the scholarships: “We are in a complicated moment because it is the renewal of the scholarships and it turns out that they want to make a tremendous cut in the number of scholarship recipients.”

They also explained that there are scholarship recipients for ENARD, others awarded scholarships by the Sports Secretariat and particular cases in which athletes receive from both organizations. “We have 18 scholarship holders, but the Argentine Judo Confederation has been asked to leave only 4.” For the coaches, this “puts the sport at risk because we need to have an active mass of athletes training and, obviously, the coaches,” Martinel said.

For her part, the historic coach continued: “It doesn’t seem fair to me and because I think it is signing the death certificate of my sport. So, thinking about how to be able to retain the largest number of scholarship holders possible, I decided to give in or resign from my scholarship from the Ministry of Sports so that there is more funding for more athletes and Paula, when I told her what is happening, she told me ‘I am also giving up mine’ So we have both decided to resign so that those funds go to. fund more athletes.

La Peque, joining the initiative, said that “it is very hard because 18 to 4 is a number that is very difficult to handle, it is very difficult to talk about it with the kids. For me, from an athlete’s point of view, it would have weighed on me.” That’s why I made the same decision that Laura made, at least if it’s useful to contribute the financial part on our side by giving up our scholarship to be able to support there. It’s the team we put together in judo and it’s like this ‘today for you,’ tomorrow for me.'”

The “Peque” was formed in the club’s headquarters Students of La Platalocated on 53rd street, next to one of the club’s sports managers, Fernando Yuma.
