An object thrown from the grandstand area hit the delegate of the Murcian team, José Miguel Ortuño “Popi”, who was left stretched out on the grass and required medical assistance. Another object fell on the player Victor Algisi, which led the Aragonese referee Manuel Ramírez Marco to interrupt the game and, later, to suspend the clash. The referee’s report noted that bottles of water and a lighter fell from the stands.
Condemnation of the facts
The referee urged the Mossos d’Esquadra to increase security in the stadium given the heated atmosphere. The Yeclano players and coaches left the field of play protected by law enforcement and an hour later the suspension was decided.
The return match is scheduled for Sunday at seven in the afternoon at the La Constitución stadium in Yecla.
Marc Torres, deputy president of Lleida, condemned the events and assured that the club will investigate them and work to identify those responsible for the throwing of objects. Torres assured that Lleida had offered Yeclano to finish the match behind closed doors, but that the Murcia club refused.
