Rugby World Cup: 98% of foreign supporters left France satisfied

Seven months after the defeat (28-29) of the French XV against South Africa in the quarter-final of its World Cup, France sees the positive aspects of the event. This is the conclusion of the impact report commissioned by the State and the organizers, produced by the EY France firm, and published this Thursday, almost 7 months after the final, and which reveals that the supporters who came to France for the competition were satisfied with the organization.

According to this study, among the 425,000 foreigners who came to follow the World Cup in France, 98% left satisfied. A necessarily encouraging figure which can reassure French know-how in terms of organizing major sporting competitions just two months before the Games. On average, these foreign supporters spent 170 euros per day on the event and stayed (still on average) 10 days during the competition.

If the tides of British supporters storming the host cities were observed by all, satisfaction is a complicated factor to quantify although important. A total of 82% of tourists during the Rugby World Cup wish to return, why not this summer. At the Olympics, nearly 15 million spectators are expected, including around 1.5 to 2 million foreigners.

During the Rugby World Cup, 40% of spending was made outside the competition’s host cities. Tourist destinations, such as Mont Saint-Michel and the Châteaux de la Loire, have been very successful. The charm of the French province therefore operates even during a sporting event.
