La Gomera Cabildo Launches Island Sporting Events Agenda

The Cabildo of La Gomera activates, starting this Friday, the first island agenda of sporting events. In this way, the Institution launches a calendar, in digital format, of the sporting events that will take place on the island during the coming months, under the organization and/or collaboration of the Cabildo.

The island president, Casimiro Curbelo, highlighted the implementation of this measure “that will allow citizens to have updated information on the calendar of sporting events that take place on the island, and that are not only a meeting point for athletes, fans and the public of all ages around these days, but they also represent a stimulus for the island’s socioeconomic fabric.”

For his part, the insular Sports Councilor, Guillermo Medina, explained that the sports agenda is available for consultation on the Island Council’s website and/or through the link www.lagomera.es/agenda-deportes, and that it will go constantly updating. “This calendar includes the celebration of events that include a multitude of modalities, in our commitment to diversify sports practice and make it attractive for everyone,” he added.

Upcoming featured events

La Gomera will host this Saturday, May 18, the III edition of the Isla de La Gomera judo tournament ‘Memorial Domingo Correa Negrín’, at the Audillón in San Sebastián de La Gomera, and with the participation of more than 200 athletes from Tenerife, Gran Canaria, La Gomera and Belgium, who compete in the juvenile, children and cadet categories.

On Friday, July 12, the second edition of the Island Sports Gala will be held, in which athletes, clubs and sports entities on the island will be recognized for their sporting merits and achievements.

On Saturday, July 20, the first edition of the OCR Mencey obstacle course will take place, with four competition distances adapted to all levels of participants. The registration period is still open through this link.

Cooperation with sports entities

In its accounts for 2024, the Cabildo of La Gomera cooperates directly with sport through several lines, such as the investment of more than 394 thousand euros to sports entities that carry out their activity in the island territory, which translates into more than 178 direct beneficiaries; the organization and collaboration of sporting events, and the sponsorship of individual athletes on the island.

Likewise, the island Institution promotes the School Games sports promotion campaign every year, in which fifteen modalities are offered in order to promote healthy living habits and values ​​through sports practice among the island’s youth.
