Intrigue at FC Bayern: Players Back Thomas Tuchel Despite Imminent Departure

Thomas Tuchel’s departure from FC Bayern is actually a done deal. But in addition to many fans, some players are apparently also in favor of a future with the 50-year-old.

Thomas Tuchel has not yet said goodbye to FC Bayern. The reason for this: the outstanding Bundesliga game at TSG Hoffenheim. “We both said we wouldn’t do it today. We’ll make up for it within the appropriate framework,” said sports director Max Eberl, commenting on the coach’s non-farewell after the home win against Wolfsburg on Sunday (2-0).

Thomas Tuchel also refused a big farewell. “You don’t need to hand over flowers for an early contract termination without a title,” he said dryly at the press conference before the game. “Of course I’m not happy personally. I signed a contract with Bayern Munich to win titles.”

Is the turning point now coming?

The 50-year-old’s exit was always communicated as a done deal and even when fans started a petition, the bosses stuck to their position.

Now Tuchel’s supporters can apparently have new hopes: As the TV channel Sky and “Bild” both report, several leading players are said to have spoken out in favor of Tuchel staying. Captain Manuel Neuer and vice-captain Thomas Müller, among others, are said to have presented to the bosses. According to Sky, assistant coach Anthony Barry also plays a role as he is very popular with the players.

Leroy Sané, Harry Kane and Eric Dier are also part of the group of supporters.

Tuchel’s contract is valid until 2025, but the termination is not yet final and is only based on a verbal agreement. However, since Bayern are encountering some problems when looking for a coach, this could increase Tuchel’s chances of staying. The 50-year-old has already indicated several times that he is open to staying. At the beginning of May he said: “Everything is always possible.” So now also a surprising turnaround in the coaching question?
