The 2024 International Women’s Wheelchair Basketball Training Camp and the 34th National Disabled Persons’ Day National Stadium Viewing Event were held in Beijing on the 26th.

This training camp is the first time that the China Disabled Persons’ Federation has invited high-level wheelchair basketball teams from the Netherlands, the United States, and the United Kingdom to Beijing for warm-up matches before the Paralympics. It also invited teams from four provinces and cities across the country, with a total of 142 athletes participating. In the final of the training camp, the US team narrowly defeated the Chinese team by 2 points. The training camp provides international and domestic high-level wheelchair basketball teams with opportunities to communicate, learn and enhance friendship, and at the same time lays a good foundation for the teams participating in the Paris Paralympic Games.

The training camp was held during the National Day for the Disabled this year. In order to let more disabled friends experience the Olympic culture and learn about wheelchair basketball, the China Disabled Persons’ Sports Administration Center invited more than 100 disabled friends from Beijing to watch the game. The National Stadium is the venue for the wheelchair basketball event of the 2008 Beijing Paralympic Games and the Paralympic ice hockey event of the 2022 Beijing Winter Paralympic Games. Disabled friends visited this “double Olympic venue” before the game to experience the rich Olympic cultural heritage and first-class barrier-free service level.

Representatives of disabled people who participated in the event said that by visiting the “dual Olympic venues” and watching the competitions, they had deeply felt the baptism of Olympic culture and their passion for sports had been stimulated. They hoped that Chinese Paralympic athletes could achieve excellent results at this year’s Paris Paralympic Games, and they also hoped that the whole society would pay more attention and care to the disabled group.

It is reported that in order to promote the sustainable development of the venue’s Olympic culture and build a caring and charitable enterprise to help the disabled, the National Stadium will provide a certain number of free tickets to disabled people in future performances and competitions, inviting disabled people to experience the beauty of sports and art up close.
