Revamped Gregorio Urbano Gilbert Sports Club Unveiled in Santiago

Santiago.- The Vice President of the Republic, Raquel Peña, together with the Minister of Sports, Francisco Camacho, delivered the completely renovated multipurpose Gregorio Urbano Gilbert Sports Club (GUG) of the Ensanche Libertad of this city.

At the reopening ceremony were the provincial governor, Rosa María Santos; the mayor of Santiago, Ulises Rodríguez; the senator of Santiago, Eduardo Estrella; the senator-elect for that province, Daniel Rivera; the vice ministers of Sports, Franklin De la Mota, Kennedy Vargas and Juan Vila Reynoso, the general secretary of the Dominican Olympic Committee, Luis Chanlatte, as well as the former NBA Luis Felipe López, president of the club, and sports leaders of the province.

In addition to the GUG, the also emblematic clubs of Santiago Plaza Valerio and Sameji will be delivered on dates to be defined as soon as the renovation phase is concluded.

“President Luis Abinader has entrusted us with bringing sport to the neighborhoods so that it can serve as a way for children and young people to find a space and encourage them to stay on the educational, sporting path and respect their parents,” he said. the Minister of Sports, Francisco Camacho.

The official added that President Abinader has focused on rescuing sports works to give youth hope and the space where they can develop their skills.

Meanwhile, Governor Santos Méndez urged the managers and inhabitants of Ensanche Libertad to take care of and maintain the building’s hygiene, while highlighting President Abinader’s efforts to make sport grow in the “Heart City.”

The president of the GUG, the immortal of sport Luis Felipe López, highlighted “the great sporting and social change” that President Abinader is making.

“This is a special day. We were waiting for this moment in Ensanche Libertad and other clubs, renewing the hope of many young people,” said López.

The GUG was subject to the installation of new bathrooms on the second level and on the first floor, as well as sanitary appliances, ceramics, granite, doors, windows and paint, as well as the general electrical installation.

A maple wood board for basketball approved by FIBA ​​was also installed, as well as renovation of the stands, dressing rooms, offices and cafeteria.

The conditioning of the work also included maintenance of the metal structure, supply and placement of gutters, renovation of the judo school, as well as bathrooms and offices in building number 1.
