“I’m going to miss it”: Kylian Mbappé, voted best player in Ligue 1 for the fifth time before leaving

The pass of five! Without much surprise, Kylian Mbappé was elected best player in Ligue 1 this Monday evening during the traditional UNFP Trophies ceremony which took place at the Pavillon d’Armenonville (Paris XVI). Already winner of this distinction in 2019, 2021, 2022, 2023, the PSG striker signs an unprecedented quintuplet which allows him to enter, even further, in the history of the French Championship which he is preparing to desert in the days to come.

Named in his category alongside Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang (Marseille), Ousmane Dembélé (Paris), Pierre Lees-Melou (Brest) and Edon Zhegrova (Lille), Mbappé, who wanted to highlight the good season of all its competitors, was acclaimed by its peers at the end of a 2023-2024 season where it, once again, extinguished the competition.

“It’s a page that is turning, a chapter of my life that is going to close. Ligue 1 has always had an important place in my life,” underlined Mbappé, trophy in hand, on the stage of the Pavillon d’Armenonville.

“I leave with my head held high”

Failing to have left a strong impression in each match played under the Parisian tunic, the world champion was once again a monster of regularity and efficiency in front of goal, despite his partial use decided by Luis Enrique after the announcement of his departure from PSG. Author of 27 goals in 29 matches played and on the verge of winning his sixth title as top scorer in Ligue 1 (a record), Kylian Mbappé was a major player in the twelfth French championship title won by the capital club.

While he still has two Ligue 1 matches to play, this Wednesday in Nice and this Saturday in Metz, and a Coupe de France final to be played on May 25 against Lyon, Mbappé therefore completes his work with a new distinction in poached. Departing for Real Madrid, he will always have the opportunity to be a major player in this ceremony in future seasons in the category of best French player abroad…

Mbappé, who gave a speech this Monday full of smiles and emotions, took stock on the microphone before watching a best-of of his Ligue 1 years concocted by the organization. The Frenchman has no regrets: “I’m leaving with my head held high. […] I will miss it. » Us too.
